The Teacher Pro-D office, in conjunction with SD71, is proud to be hosting Tom Schimmer for a mini dinner series this spring!
Tom is an internationally renowned BC based assessment author and former BC educator and administrator.

A catered dinner will be provided to all participants part way through each session. Participants can attend one or both sessions. The target audience of this series is grade 6-12 teachers (middle/secondary), but all teachers would benefit from attending. It is likely that we will engage more with Tom next year to serve more teachers in our district.
Participants will be part of building a shared understanding of assessment principles across the teams that they work with, specifically in middle and secondary schools. We will be challenged to consider if our pedagogies match what the BC curriculum is asking of us in terms of assessment. Many students currently live in the safety and security of averaged based numeric grades. Do we need to rethink how we assess in order to serve students better? How does reporting fit into all of this?
Participants are guaranteed to leave these sessions with frameworks of thinking that allow them to reflect on their own practice. They will also leave with tools and strategies they could implement immediately in their classrooms if they choose to.
